The Federal Government has flagged off the construction of erosion control embankment project at Muye in the Lapai Local Council of Niger State.

The Acting Managing Director, National Hydro Electric Power Producing Area Development Commission (N-HYPPADEC), Mr. Jimoh Haruna Gabi, performed the official flag off of the project in a brief ceremony held in Muye town on Monday, April 7, 2025, ,assisted by the member representing Agaie/Lapai Federal Constituency at the House of Representatives, Abdullahi Mahmud.

Gabi revealed that over N600 million was earmarked for the project, adding that the time frame of the project is four months.

In his remarks, Haruna urged the contractor to keep to specifications,and warned that N-HYPPADEC would not compromise standard.

The Acting M.D stressed the need for the people to appreciate the federal government’s commitment towards providing social amenities to them aimed at uplifting their living condition.

The member representing Agaie/ Lapai Federal Constituency, Abdullahi Mahmud disclosed that the project is one of the milestone achievement of Tinubu’s administration, saying that when completed, it would revive the economic activities of the area as well as enhance the growth and development.

Mahmud, who made a case of persistent erosion in Muye and other adjoining communities to N-HYPPADEC for intervention, explained that the effect of the erosion has crippled the social and economic activities of the people of the area.

He had highlighted that about 37 communities whose livelihoods dependent on fishing and weekly market had over the years suffered from economic setbacks.

Mahmud, however, appealed to the community leader and the people of the area to cooperate with the contractor handle the project so as to ensure timely completion of the project.

Earlier, the community leader of Muye, Salihu Muye Mohammed, expressed delight over the intervention, adding that he was overwhelmed because the project is been given the attention during his reign as the community leader.

He commended their representative for making a case for his constituency and also lauded N-HYPPADEC for responding to their plight, assuring of his people’s cooperation with the contractor.
