Says $10b investment needed for reliable supply
The Federal Government, yesterday, said that it is committed to ensuring reliable, affordable and sustainable energy in educational institutions across the country.
Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, said that energy plays a crucial role in driving development, especially in sectors like education, healthcare and production industries, stressing that the Federal Government is working to ensure its availability and affordability. He stated that there was no way research and learning could go on effectively in educational institutions without clean and affordable energy.
Adelabu stated during the inauguration and handover of the 240kw Solar Car Park worth N900 million built by Azura Power as part of the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) to the Faculty of Engineering, University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), that the facility would boost electricity supply in the faculty.
While applauding Azura Power West Africa Limited for donating the Solar Car Park that will ensure uninterrupted clean power supply to the faculty, he stated that Nigerians must support the government’s efforts in promoting a healthy society.
MEANWHILE, the Federal Government has revealed plans to collaborate with the private sector to raise a portion of the $10 billion required to ensure a consistent and reliable electricity supply across the country.
This initiative is part of the government’s broader strategy to address the nation’s chronic power supply challenges and is expected to take five to ten years.
This was the focus of discussions when the Director-General of the Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission, Dr. Jobson Oseodion Ewalefoh, paid a courtesy visit to the Minister of Power in Abuja.
A statement by the Acting Head of Media and Publicity, Ifeanyi Nwoko, yesterday, revealed that the two officials agreed that given the funding and technical requirements necessary to advance Nigeria’s power sector, it had become imperative to seek private sector involvement through Public-Private Partnerships for co-financing and expertise to ensure optimal performance of power infrastructure
