Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development (FMHADMSD) has partnered with Global Alliance for Nutrition, (GAIN) for effective realisation of the School Feeding Programme (SFP) in Nigeria.
Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Sadiya Umar Farouq, announced this, in Abuja, during signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with GAIN.
She said approval of the policy on national home-grown school feeding programme by the Federal Executive Council and signing of an MoU on nutrition is a step towards realising the objectives of SFP in the country.
A communique signed by Deputy Director, Information, in the ministry, Rhoda Iliya, quoted Farouq, who was represented by Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Dr. Sani Warzo, as saying that the incoming administration will benefit from the partnership.
She said: “I am happy that this is happening at a time when this country is transiting to a new administration. It would require this kind of documentation to build upon, because people will change, leadership will change, but once the documentation is right, we are on the right cause.
“The MoU is not just going to be symbolic, but strategic. The ministry will continue to work towards achieving its separate, but mutual objectives of building resilience and empowering people.”
Country Director, GAIN, Dr. David Mamewalen, stressed that the MoU would help set the stage on how the ministry and GAIN can collaborate better over the coming months and years.
Also speaking, National Coordinator, National Social Investment Programme (NSIP), Dr. Umar Bindir, said the National Home-Grown School Feeding Programme (NHGSFP), under NSIP, is gradually maturing and attracting partnership internationally, which is an index that the ministry is doing the right thing.
He said the passage of the National Home-grown School Feeding Programme policy by the Federal Executive Council (FEC) is an indication that the initiative is actually the way to go.
