The Federal Government has given a one-month ultimatum to developers on the shoreline in Lagos State to come up for regularisation or risk revocation and demolition.
Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Dangiwa, who gave the directive, yesterday, after an inspection visit to the Lagos Lagoon Estates and shoreline front, warned the developers to vacate the premises with immediate effect.
Dangiwa, who emphasised the Federal Government’s decision to take stock of its assets and landed property with the view to having proper documentation of assets spread across the country, said that the federal and Lagos State governments agreed to ensure there is disciplined development on the Lagos shoreline.
The minister, accompanied by the Permanent Secretary, Dr Marcus Ogunbiyi and some directors of the ministry, stressed that there is no room for haphazard development on the Lagos shoreline, saying: “We are working with Lagos State to fix these anomalies.”
He emphasised that the Federal Government would not tolerate such haphazard development and irregular activities on the shoreline, hence the ultimatum.
IN another development, the Council of Registered Builders of Nigeria (CORBON) has inducted 329 new builders, saying that the body would not fail to discipline any registered members found to have engaged in unethical or unprofessional conduct.
CORBON Chairman, Samson A. Opaluwah, stated this during the 24th induction ceremony in Abuja, urging the builders to continue to uphold the values of the profession and strive for excellence to have a lasting impact on the country.
Opaluwah, while regretting the disturbing trends of building collapse that often resulted in tragic loss of life and property damage, urged the builders to work together to prevent such tragedies.
“As a Council, we are taking bold steps to engage with state governors to enact and enforce state planning laws that will ensure adherence to building codes and standards which we believe will drastically address these issues,” he said.
Also, the former President of the Federation of Construction Industry, Solomon Ogunbusola, urged the new inductees to think outside of the box, saying that there are many fields for them to gainfully engage and work to improve by using emerging technologies.
The Royal Father of the Day, Matthew A. Oguche Akpa II, congratulated CORBON for its successes over the decades, urging the builders to maintain high standards of the profession and contribute to nation-building.
