FG, Jigawa, foundation sign MoU to feed Almajirai, vulnerable children

The Federal Government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Abdullah Mahmood Foundation (AMF) and the Jigawa State Government to provide meals for over 30 percent of Almajirai and other vulnerable children in the state.

Beneficiaries include pupils in Almajiri schools, children in Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps, and those from the poorest communities not currently covered by existing school feeding programmes.

The initiative, facilitated by the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on School Feeding, is part of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritizes inclusive development, human capital growth, and public-private partnerships.

Beyond tackling malnutrition and improving school enrollment and retention, the programme aims to empower women and local farmers by integrating them into the food supply chain.

Senior Special Assistant to the President on School Feeding, Dr. Yetunde Adeniji, described the agreement as “a new dawn where partnerships fuel progress and every Nigerian child is allowed to learn, thrive, and succeed.”

She commended Jigawa State for its decisive step, urging other states to emulate the initiative to ensure no child is left behind in the drive toward national growth and prosperity.

With this MoU, Jigawa joins states such as Zamfara, Plateau, and Ogun in advancing school feeding efforts, while Anambra is expected to join soon.
