The Federal Government has ordered an immediate investigation into allegations of extortion involving officers of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).
Responding to reports across some social media platforms indicating that some NSCDC officers allegedly extorted ₦5.2 million from a group of young men traveling from Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State to Akure, Ondo State, Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, said that anyone found culpable after the probe will be dealt with according to the laws.
“We will not tolerate any form of misconduct from our security agencies,” Tunji-Ojo said.
“We are building a paramilitary that is disciplined, professional, and serves Nigeria and Nigerians with dignity and patriotism. We will ensure that justice is upheld in this case and confirm that security personnel serve with integrity.”
The minister said that any officer found guilty of such misconduct will face strict legal repercussions.
