FG’s TVET reforms pathway to jobs, entrepreneurship’

Moniepoint CEO, Tosin Eniolorunda at The Platform Nigeria

GROWING support has continued to trail the Federal Ministry of Education’s aggressive Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) reforms under the Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, following renewed concerns over graduate unemployment and skills gaps in Nigeria.

The conversation gained fresh momentum after an Instagram reel shared by reform advocacy platform, “reformswithlilian,” spotlighted comments made by Moniepoint Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Tosin Eniolorunda, regarding the growing challenge of unemployable graduates and the urgent need for practical, industry-relevant skills in Nigeria’s workforce.

Eniolorunda had sparked nationwide debate after disclosing that Moniepoint was struggling to fill about 500 job vacancies due to a shortage of suitably skilled talent. He further argued that many applicants failed to meet the company’s expected standards.

The comments generated widespread reactions online, with many Nigerians disagreeing with the broad characterisation of graduates as unemployable, while others argued that the remarks exposed longstanding weaknesses within Nigeria’s education-to-employment pipeline.

Against that backdrop, reformswithlilian, in its viral Instagram reel reviewing ongoing education reforms, praised Alausa’s TVET reforms as a practical intervention capable of addressing the concerns raised by the Moniepoint CEO.

The platform highlighted the Federal Government’s growing focus on technical skills, digital competence, vocational education, entrepreneurship, and workforce readiness as critical tools for reducing unemployment and repositioning Nigerian youths for the modern economy.

The discussion has since triggered wider conversations online about the disconnect between conventional university education and the demands of today’s economy, with many Nigerians pointing to the Federal Government’s TVET reforms as a critical intervention capable of reversing the trend.
