The long arm of the law has caught up with a 23-year-old female final year student of Ladoke Akintola University, Ogbomosho, Abiodun Olabisi, over the alleged murder of his lover, Adegun Lekan.

The suspect and the deceased, a fresh graduate of the institution awaiting call-up for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) scheme, were said to be living together as a ‘couple’ at Phonix Area, Stadium Road, Ogbomosho until the unfortunate incident.

The Oyo State police command yesterday paraded her for allegedly stabbing her boyfriend to death. Briefing newsmen at the command’s headquarter in Eleyele, Ibadan, the Oyo State Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Odude, said the suspect was arrested by detectives attached to Owode Ogbomosho Division.

“Investigation revealed that the suspect and the deceased were cohabiting in the usual student’s tradition of trial marriage at Phoenix area, Ogbomoso. The incident happened on November 21 at about 8:00p.m. following a quarrel arising from petty jealousy.

“The victim, a graduate of Transport Management, was stabbed in the chest and was rushed to Bowen University Teaching Hospital, Ogbomoso , but died before he could be attended to,” Odude said, adding that the kitchen knife used in committing the crime has been recovered and the suspect would soon be arraigned in court.

Some of the other suspects paraded by the police boss include a five-man robbery gang who specializes in attacking motorcycles and warehouses, a bricklayer who robes student of Ladoke Akintola University students’ hostels, an undergraduate social media fraudster who was nabbed for rape and a two-man armed robbery gang who disguises as passengers to rob drivers.

Others are five-man notorious burglars who operate in Oke-Owdode area of Ogbomosho, a driver who absconded with his master’s car in Ibadan and arrested in Akwa-Ibom, an internet fraudster placing fake online adverts to defraud people, a fraudster who specializes in obtaining money by false pretence, among others.

The undergraduate social media fraudster arrested for rape is a 300-level student of LAUTECH and was nabbed by F-SARS. He said the modus operandi of the suspect was to pose as a friend in WhatsApp groups and other social media platforms, deceiving unsuspecting female victims.

“The suspect will lure his victims to his house after promising to register them in an imaginary dancing school. The suspect would then prowl on his victims whom he would rape mercilessly under duress and then threaten to blackmail them in order to discourage them from reporting to the police.”

“On October 20, the suspect lured a female student of LAUTECH, Omolara, to his house in Agbala Daniel area, Ogbomoso and sexually battered her,”Odude said, adding that he was arrested by operatives of the special unit after the victim lodged a report to the police.Items recovery from the suspect include kitchen knife, an iron rod and some charms.

Speaking on the effort of the command to ensure a safe yuletide and a crisis-free election period, Odude said: “The command has begun an unprecedented onslaught on criminal elements in the state, depleting their ranks through intelligence-based raid of identified criminal hideouts and intensive vehicle patrol of entry and exit point in the state.

“The clampdown on criminal elements will be sustained beyond the yuletide and the general election periods. This is to ensure the sustainability of the relative peace currently being enjoyed as well as to create an atmosphere conducive for the electorate, candidates, INEC staff and other participants involved in the electoral process.”
