Finance ministry, budget office workers’ strike paralyses activities
As the strike embarked upon by workers of the Federal Ministry of Finance and that of the Budget and National Planning office entered its second day yesterday, activities at the ministry and agencies, particularly at the corporate headquarters of the Ministry of Finance, were grounded as members of staff rebuffed all entreaties and blocked access to the entrance and turn off electricity and other sources of power at the complex.
They insisted that their N1.2 billion special over-time allowance backlog must be cleared, failing which the minister Mrs. Kemi Adeosun, must be fired.
All the pleas by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Finance, Alhaji Mahmoud Dutse, could also not placate the protesting workers who carried placards with inscriptions such as “Adeosun must go,” “Pay us our entitlements,” among others, to open the offices, as they demanded to see the minister.
The workers said their agitation would continue until the minister is either removed or their allowances paid.
