.As hoodlums, security operatives clash
Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa State has declared a 24-hour curfew in the state due to the deadly attacks that hoodlums launched on some government facilities along airport road.
Trouble started yesterday, when church services were going on in different parts of the state and some hoodlums, wielding cutlasses, axes and other dangerous weapons, were seen carting away bags of maize, rice, other consumables and mattresses.
They later descended on people’s stores and shops.
When soldiers and the police got wind of the incident, they mobilised to the area.
On sighting the security operatives, the hoodlums challenged them.
Fintri, in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary (CPS), Humwashi Wonosikou, explained: “The curfew followed the dangerous dimension the activities of hoodlums assumed across the state capital, as they attack people with machetes and break into business premises, carting away property. With the curfew, there will be no movement throughout the state.”
The governor said only those on essential duties with valid identification would be permitted to move around during the curfew.
He appealed to Adamawa residents to comply with the directive, adding that any person found contravening the order would be arrested and prosecuted.
