Fire destroys documents, furniture at Supreme Court chambers
An early morning fire, yesterday, destroyed vital documents and furniture at a section of the Supreme Court complex in the Three Arms Zone, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.
The Guardian gathered that the fire started at about 8:00a.m., from Justices’ Chambers, on the fourth floor of the apex court
According to sources, the fire started from Chamber 5 of the court, which is occupied by Justice Mohammed Saulawa.
Justices chambers are located behind the courtroom of the apex court.Although the source of the fire was yet to be determined, some court staff identified an electric spark as the cause of the incident, while about three offices were torched.
However, spokesperson for the apex court, Dr. Festus Akande, said only a chamber of the building was affected.
“Some files, and other valuable documents were razed down by the fire.”
“No life was lost as the fire was immediately put out by some staff and men of the fire service at the Supreme Court,” Akande added.
