Goods and property worth hundreds of millions of naira were destroyed, yesterday, in an early morning fire incident that affected part of the popular Kimowei Filling Station along the Mbiama-Yenagoa Road, Amarata, Bayelsa State.

The fire, whose source is yet to be ascertained, burnt down over 15 shops and about seven houses close to the filling station. It was gathered that the fire started at about 2:30am with men of the Federal Fire Service arriving the scene about two hours.

Some of the residents, who spoke with our correspondent, alleged that the fire began from the pure water factory attached to the station, while others said it was from a car parked around the entrance of the petrol station.

One of the victim and a widow, Mrs. Chika Eze, who lost all her entire wares in the incident, explained that she and her children heard the shout of fire from neighbours and by the time they arrived the scene, the entire shop has been burnt.

Police spokesman in Bayelsa State, ASP Musa Muhammed, who confirmed the incident, claimed the fire was caused by electricity spark that fell on a vehicle which got burnt and spread to buildings.
