Fire razes multimillion Naira house, traps two siblings in Gombe

A 14-year-old, Haliru Haruna and his 12-year-old sister, Aisha Haruna are presently on danger list after a fire that completely razed their home enveloped them.

This happened while their father, Haliru Haruna, a trader was in far away Portharcourt, Rivers State.

The house in Dubai quarters in Akko local government area of Gombe State caught fire at exactly 8:30 pm.

Eyewitnesses told The Guardian that the house was razed to foundation when the boy was asked by his 35-year old mother to make coal fire in readiness for the supper.

The source said the boy was with his sister when he assembled the coal.

After this, “I suspect he poured too much kerosene because as soon as he applied naked light, it caught both the lintel and the curtain,” the source explained.

While the children were on fire, their mother was inside tending to the other four children, until the of the two trapped children attracted her.

Neighbours told our reporter that no valuable was rescued as help couldn’t come on time.

“They had locked the gate from within, no one could pass through to rescue them,” a neighbour, Adamu Sei’du recounted.

The mother, Adeeza Haruna lamented that valuables including: televisions, deep freezers, clothes and children’s schoolbooks were burnt.

She said fire fighters came when neighbours had already forced their way into the premises to help in quelling the fire.
