Infrastructure and technology firm, Langovest Limited, has urged government authorities to ease regulatory and tax policies to encourage private sector participation in infrastructure development.
The company’s Business Development Lead, David Amafina, who spoke during the deployment of its AquaPoint water filtration system at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), said easing restrictions and tax-related obligations would make it easier for private firms to deploy infrastructure projects across Lagos and other parts of the country.
He noted that while several organisations are making efforts to improve access to safe drinking water, affordability and accessibility remain key challenges for the average Nigerian.
Amafina said government support through more flexible regulatory frameworks and tax considerations would enable private organisations to expand innovative solutions to underserved communities.
He added that the AquaPoint system is designed as a modular water purification infrastructure that provides clean drinking water without the need for bottling, and is intended to improve last-mile access to potable water.
The intervention comes amid concerns over access to safe drinking water in Nigeria, with estimates indicating that about 170 million Nigerians lack access to potable water.
The Legal and Compliance Officer of Langovest Limited, Adefunke Olatoke, said the LASUTH deployment represents the first phase of a wider rollout strategy across Lagos State.
She said the system is connected to the hospital’s water source and is part of efforts to demonstrate scalable water infrastructure in public facilities.
“We are starting with this, but it doesn’t end here. It goes into every 500 meters. That is the plan,” she said.
Olatoke said the company is targeting about 2,500 installations across Lagos by 2030, adding that residential and personal-use models are also in development.
Receiving the donation on behalf of the hospital, the Chief Medical Director, Adetokunbo Fabamwo, commended the company for its support and that the installation would improve access to clean water within the facility and provide a reliable source of clean water for staff and visitors.
