Following the recent outbreak of Lassa Fever in Babura Local Govt Area which claims one live Health specialists have take a renewed fight against the outbreak.
The outbreak which has left health workers exposed comes amid fresh community-to-community campaigns against the scourge of the deadly diseases.
It was learnt that the sensitisation drive, organised by the Public Health Emergency Operations Centre, Jigawa State and the National Orientation Agency with UNICEF support, covered Babura, Guri, Malam- Madori, and Jigawar Dan Ali communities in Jigawa state.
Not a few health personnel who spoke with the Guardian reminded that the country has persistently battled against rising cases of Lassa Fever and Diphtheria across several states, with health authorities warning rural communities to stay alert.
Speaking during the flagging off of the sensitisation campaign held at the Babura District Head’s Palace, Babura LGA, the Jigawa State Disease Surveillance and Notification Officer, Sani Ibrahim, said the exercise was urgent.
“The sensitisation became necessary following a reported outbreak of Lassa Fever in Babura which resulted in the death of one person,” the DSNO said.
