A Group, Afrornaments, has underscored the importance of telling genuine African stories, changing negative narratives and empowering the less privileged in the continent.
The Chief Executive Officer, Afrornaments, Ifeanyichukwu Oraemeka, stated this at an arts show and exhibition the group staged in Lagos with the theme, “Tales explores and presents the ingenuity of African crafts”.
She said her organisation is an Afrocentric creative enterprise that creates African inspired ornaments.
She added that the aim of the event is to tell African stories correctly, redeem the negative vibes, images and moral values.
“I teach children arts and crafts, because l believe in catch them young. They can express their thoughts, mood and emotion through arts, drawing and painting.
“In addition, we showcase our African crafts and arts, fashion, food, culture and traditions. We have crafts designs from Ghana and other African countries. We tell the positive stories around our crafts and products.
“We promote symbols and signs which most people feel sometimes are fetish or diabolic. We try to educate and correct these misconceptions.
“We need more art exhibitions to tell our stories better by ourselves, not allowing others to talk for us because we are the ones passing through our challenges.”
