The West African Gas Pipeline Company Limited (WAPCO) has planned a yearly investment of $750,000 in skills development, scholarships, and community programmes in Nigeria, Ghana, Benin and Togo.
The initiative, known as the Community Youth Employment Scheme (CYES), aimed to empower host communities with vocational training and entrepreneurship support.
General Manager for Corporate Affairs at WAPCO, Dr Isaac Adjei Doku, who disclosed this yesterday during the graduation ceremony for beneficiaries of WAPCO’s livelihood support programme in Ota, Ogun State, reiterated the company’s commitment to community development beyond infrastructure projects, such as schools and hospitals.
Doku, who said that the company had evolved its approach to empower community members with livelihood programmes, said: “We are identifying brilliant but needy.”
