FIRS to host second edition of emerging taxpayers’ clinic

The Executive Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), Dr. Zacch Adedeji, has reaffirmed the Service’s commitment to tax education, inclusion, and voluntary compliance, emphasizing that the goal is to simplify tax administration, not complicate it.

Through its Emerging Taxpayers’ Group (ETG), the FIRS is set to host the second edition of the 2025 Tax Clinic in Abuja. Themed “Tax Clinic for Tax Clarity: Transitioning into NRS,” the event will hold on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, at Lagbaja Hall, Nigerian Army Conference Centre & Suites (NACCAS), Asokoro, Abuja.

Building on the success of the Lagos edition, which recorded strong public engagement and meaningful interaction between taxpayers and revenue institutions, the Abuja clinic aims to deepen taxpayer understanding and promote voluntary compliance.

The clinic offers a practical platform for small business owners, entrepreneurs, and professionals to engage directly with tax experts, gain clarity on their obligations, and understand the transition into the Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS), part of ongoing reforms to modernize and harmonize the country’s tax administration system.

Adedeji described the Tax Clinic as a key pillar of the Service’s inclusive and citizen-centered reform agenda.

He said, “Our goal is to simplify tax, not to complicate it. The Tax Clinic is designed to bring the Service closer to the people, to listen, educate, and foster a culture of voluntary compliance through mutual understanding and trust.”

The one-day event will feature presentations, panel discussions, and service desks hosted by partner institutions including FIRS, CAC, JTB, FCT-IRS, NIMC, NIPC, TAT, CITN, ICAN, ANAN, NBA, and NMA. Participants will also have access to on-site advisory support for tax registration, filing, and dispute resolution.

Additionally, the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) will provide free basic health checks for participants throughout the event. The first 400 participants to register physically at the venue will receive special branded gifts courtesy of FIRS.

To ensure wider participation, the clinic will be livestreamed on Zoom and YouTube for taxpayers, business communities, and stakeholders across Nigeria and beyond.

In a statement, Special Adviser on Communications and Advocacy to the Executive Chairman, Mr. Collins Osagie Omokaro, said the Tax Clinic reflects a new era of proactive engagement by the FIRS.

He noted, “Under Dr. Adedeji’s leadership, the Service has prioritized accessibility and empathy in tax administration. The Tax Clinic is not just about compliance—it’s about connection. It shows that when taxpayers are informed and supported, they become partners in national development.”

Through initiatives like the Tax Clinic, FIRS continues to advance its vision of “Simplifying Tax, Maximising Revenue,” and promoting a tax culture rooted in transparency, inclusion, and service.
