First Lady donates N1.9b to elderly citizens’ welfare
The first lady, wife of President Bola Tinubu, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has donated N1.9 billion to the welfare of the elderly across the 36 states and the Federal capital territory, Abuja.
Senator Oluremi Tinubu said the distribution is the second edition of the Renew Hope Initiative, RHI, and parts of the social investment Programmes of President Bola Tinubu.
Speaking at the flag-off of the Renew Hope Initiative, the first lady said that the programme was designed to support the welfare of elderly citizens annually between the ages of 65 and above.
Oluremi, who was represented at the occasion in Lafia, the state headquarters, by Aisha Rufai, women Affairs Commissioner, disclosed that all beneficiaries will be given N200,000 each against the initial N100,000 given out to each beneficiary last year.
She added that N50,000,000 will be given to each state of the federation to be shared with 250 elderly citizens in each state.
Oluremi commended all the first ladies of the states and the RHI coordinators and partners.
In appreciation, Hajiya Maimuna Mohammed commended Mrs. Tinubu for remembering the poor during such a difficult period in the country.
She promised to use the money to take care of her family’s welfare and health.
