First Lady presents N25m award to autistic Guinness World Record holder

Senator Oluremi Tinubu, Nigeria’s First Lady and wife of the President, has honoured Kanyeyachukwu Tagbo Okeke, a remarkable 15-year-old autistic artist, with a cash award of N25 million.

Kanyeyachukwu recently made headlines by setting the Guinness World Record for the largest art canvas.

In November 2024, Kanyeyachukwu achieved this milestone by creating an impressive artwork featuring a multi-colored ribbon, symbolic of autism, surrounded by various emojis, spanning an impressive 12,304 square meters.

During a meeting on Monday at her office, Tinubu commended Kanyeyachukwu for his exceptional talent, emphasising the importance of using the award to further his education. She expressed admiration for his accomplishments despite the challenges he faces, highlighting her efforts to raise awareness about autism through a recently published book.

She stated, “I want to take this opportunity to encourage parents with children who have special needs to nurture their unique skills and strengths

“These children often have a singular passion, and parents need to support them in pursuing their interests and aspirations. I am grateful to everyone involved in helping Kanyeyachukwu secure the Guinness World Record. As we celebrate Children’s Day on Tuesday, today is a particularly meaningful occasion to recognise his achievements.”

The Minister of Art, Culture, Tourism, and Creative Economy, Barrister Hannatu Musa Musawa, represented by the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Dr. Mukhtar Yawale Muhammed MFR, mni, lauded the First Lady’s supportive gesture. She described Kanyeyachukwu’s triumph as an inspiring example for young people everywhere.

“The journey of Kanyeyachukwu illustrates the incredible potential that can be unlocked when passion aligns with opportunity.

“Through the Renewed Hope Initiative, which prioritises women and youth empowerment, the First Lady has championed programs designed to help young talent flourish, ensuring that every gift is acknowledged and every dream has the chance to be realised,” she remarked.
