• FG commissions mother, child hospital in Akwa Ibom
Wife of the President, Oluremi Tinubu, has commissioned new Tuberculosis (TB) Molecular Diagnostic Machines designed to boost rapid TB detection across the country.
Nigeria has the highest TB prevalence in Africa, and about 350,000 new TB cases are detected yearly in the country.
The new TB Diagnostic Machines can detect and make available test results in less than 30 minutes.
To this end, the First Lady has called on stakeholders to intensify efforts to mobilise domestic resources to ensure that Nigeria ends Tuberculosis by 2030.
Speaking at the official commissioning of the Machines yesterday, in Abuja, Tinubu observed that though Tuberculosis is curable, too many Nigerians are still dying from the disease because there’s no technology to detect the ailment, as well as limited access to the appropriate diagnostic tools.
She noted that these diagnostic machines will be deployed across Nigeria to enhance rapid and accurate TB detection, especially in underserved areas.
ALSO, in a significant milestone for healthcare delivery and grassroots development, the Federal Government has commissioned a 100-bed Renewed Hope Mother and Child Specialist Hospital in Oko-Ita, Ibiono Ibom Local Council of Akwa Ibom State.
The state-of-the-art facility, constructed and fully equipped under President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda by the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goals (OSSAP-SDGs), is designed to provide comprehensive maternal, neonatal, and paediatric care to underserved communities.
Commissioning the hospital on Wednesday, Governor Umo Eno, represented by his Deputy, Akon Eyakenyi, lauded the President for prioritising the health needs of Nigerians, especially in rural areas.
“Our President understands that health is wealth. The commissioning of this hospital speaks to his commitment to addressing the healthcare needs of the people and achieving SDG three on good health and well-being,” the governor said.
