Five die in fresh Kaduna attack, homes, vehicle torched
•Police confirm killing of abducted farmers
•Group deplores insecurity, youths tackle leaders
Five persons have been killed and nine houses burnt in a fresh attack at Madamai village in Kaura council area of Kaduna State by unidentified hoodlums. A vehicle was also vandalised in the process.
The Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, in a statement yesterday, said Acting Governor Hadiza Balarabe had condemned the violence and appealed for calm.
“The deceased have been identified as follows: Janet Yakubu, Gambo Yakubu, Jonathan Adamu, Mrs. Monday and Humphrey Barnabas,” he added.
IN a related development, the state police command confirmed the killing of unspecified number of farmers abducted at Buruku and Udawa villages in Chikun Local Council of the state by bandits.
The victims were seized in their farms over a month ago.
The police spokesman in the state, Mohammed Jalige, explained that the bodies of some of the victims were discovered at the weekend.
ALSO, the Muslim Council of Nigeria (MCON) said the most populous black nation was sick of crisis ranging from banditry, kidnapping to farmer/herder clashes and secessionist agitations.
Speaking at an event to herald the new Islamic year, 1443 yesterday in Kaduna, president of the umbrella body of over 70 Islamic organisations, Alhaji Liadi Olapade, regretted that the Nigeria’s security challenges were being promoted by “lack of even handedness and lack of application of prescribed punishment by the laws of the land on those breaching the peace of the country.”
He noted that a situation, where some people are given cover when they commit crime, promotes evil, urging recourse to rule of law.
THIS is even as the Joint Action Committee of Northern Youth Associations (JACNYA) blamed poor leadership for the region’s socio-economic woes.
According to the convener, Murtala Abubakar, Nigerians should not entrust leadership to the current leaders if the North must develop economically.
He eulogised the late Permanent Secretary, Alhaji Ahmed Jodah, for his leadership attributes.
