Flood: FG evacuates inmates from Maiduguri custodial center
Following devastating floods in Maiduguri, Borno State, the Federal Government has commenced evacuation of inmates from the Maiduguri Medium Security Custodial Center to an undisclosed facility.
Announcing the evacuation and activation of safety measures, the Nigerian Correctional Service, (NCoS), said its officers are working round the clock for a secure and smooth transfer process.
The spokesman of the Service, Umar Abubakar, said that the agency is addressing the incident and has activated a containment procedure in collaboration with sister security and relevant agencies in providing support and assistance to those affected.

“As the agency responsible for the safekeeping of inmates, we want to assure the public that we are taking all necessary measures to ensure public safety,” Abubakar said.
“We appreciate the support and guidance from the Presidency and the Vice President’s visit to Maiduguri to assess the situation.
“We will continue to provide updates, and will like to assure the public that the NCoS is committed to maintaining order and ensuring public safety during this challenging time.”
