Food Security: Gombe Collaborates With FG On Dry Season Farming

In effort to ensure of food security improving in the country, Gombe state government in collaboration with the federal government has procured farming equipment and seeds to wheat and rice farmers for this year dry farming season.

The State permanent secretary Ministry of Agriculture Alhaji Jani Adamu Bello who disclosed this to Journalists in Gombe over the weekend, said that the seeds, fertilizer, and farming equipment purchase by the two governments would sold at very subsidised rates to the farmers.

According to him, government through its support scheme on wheat and rice farming programme had purchased over 400 bags of 50 kg of both wheat and rice seeds at the cost of N 2.6 million which were sold to the farmers at subsidised rate of N 1,950 per bag instead of the N 3 000 market price.

Alhaji Bello said that 30 units of Thrasher machines were purchased by the two government at the total cost of 10.5 million, which would sold to the farmers as 250,000, against 350,000 market price and 160 of 3 inch water pumps were also purchase as 50,000 per one and sold to the farmers at 7500.

He added that the two governments also purchased 300 Nap sack sprayers at 13,200 per one and sold at 2,200, adding that the state government to distribute over 5,300 bags of fertilizer reserved from last year’s disbursement which would also sold to the farmers at the subsidised rates of N 3, 200 against the N 6,200 market price.
