Ogun JCC NANS hails Gov Abiodun over $250m dairy investment

Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Ogun State Joint Campus Council (JCC), has lauded Governor Dapo Abiodun for attracting a $250 million dairy investment to the state, describing the development as a major boost to agriculture, job creation and economic growth.

The students’ body said the investment highlights the governor’s commitment to economic diversification, agricultural transformation, food security and sustainable development.

In a statement issued by its Chairman, Comrade Tijani Habeebullahi Adekunle, NANS Ogun JCC noted that the project would significantly enhance livestock production, stimulate economic activities and strengthen Ogun State’s position as a leading destination for agribusiness and industrial investments.

The association said the investment would create opportunities for young people, particularly students pursuing careers in agriculture and related fields.

“As the umbrella body representing students across tertiary institutions in Ogun State, we recognise the immense opportunities this project presents, especially for students and aspiring professionals in agriculture and allied disciplines,” the statement said.

While congratulating Abiodun on the landmark investment, the students urged the state government and the investing partners to ensure that students are deliberately integrated into the benefits of the project.

According to NANS, students studying agriculture, animal science, veterinary medicine, agricultural economics, agricultural engineering, environmental sciences, biotechnology, food science and other related disciplines should be provided with opportunities to participate in the initiative.

The association recommended the creation of internship placements, industrial training programmes, research collaborations, field demonstrations, capacity-building initiatives, scholarship schemes and graduate employment pathways.

It argued that such measures would help bridge the gap between classroom learning and industry practice while equipping students with the practical skills needed to drive agricultural development in Nigeria.

It expressed confidence that the inclusion of students in the project would maximise its long-term impact and contribute to the production of highly skilled graduates capable of supporting national development.

The body reiterated its commitment to supporting policies and programmes that promote education, youth development, economic growth and sustainable progress in Ogun State.

It added that it looked forward to seeing the investment translate into tangible opportunities for students and youths across the state.

The association also congratulated Governor Abiodun and all stakeholders involved in securing the investment, describing it as a landmark achievement for Ogun State’s agricultural sector and economic future.
