A former President of the Trade Union Congress (TUC), Peter Esele, has donated bags of rice to 265 vulnerable households in Ohordua community, Esan South East Local Council of Edo.

Esele said he initiated the donation nine years ago to give succour to the poor and vulnerable persons in his community.

Represented by his personal assistant, Chris Oribhabor, the veteran trade unionist said the 2023 distribution was particularly dear to his heart because rice, which used to be the commonest food in the country, is barely affordable.

“So it gladdens my heart that amid all odds, we are still able to do this again, this year,” he said.

We had thought that this year, at least, no fewer than 300 households would benefit, but the current economic situation is a shocker to everybody. But all hope is not lost. I believe we will come out of this situation stronger,” he said.

He noted that Yuletide is a season to show empathy, love, and brotherliness.
