Ahead of Saturday’s national convention of the All Progressives Congress (APC), no fewer than 600 former members of its House of Representatives caucus have endorsed Chidi Nwogu for the National Organising Secretary position.

Ahead of Saturday’s national convention of the All Progressives Congress (APC), no fewer than 600 former members of its House of Representatives caucus have endorsed Chidi Nwogu for the National Organising Secretary position.

The group’s spokesman, Nze Chidi Duru, who spoke to reporters during Nwogu’s formal declaration to contest the post, disclosed that members of the caucus, who would participate in the exercise, have resolved to support Nwogu.

Nwogu’s main rivals are Emma Ibediro believed to enjoy Governor Rochas Okorocha’s support and the outgoing National Organising Secretary, Osita Izunaso, who is seeking re-election at the convention.

A member of the group, Ibrahim Zailani, also disclosed that the caucus had resolved to enlist delegates from across the country to achieve the objective.

“We have no fears whatsoever because if the party decides to go for the unity list, we are home and dry. If the party decides to go for election, our candidate remains the man to beat.

“On Sunday morning, I am sure we will be celebrating his victory. Nwogu is a man of integrity capable of creating a new brand of APC that will take the party and country to the next level of greatness,” he said.

Nigeria’s former Ambassador to North Korea and member of the caucus, Alex Nwofe, who cited Nwogu’s antecedents as a politician and businessman, expressed hope that delegates would back Nwogu’s inclusion in the party’s National Working Committee (NWC).

Besides, Nwogu said his decision to contest the position was borne out of the need to ensure the emergence of a new crop of party leaders with the required capacities and background to wield the party together for the overall development of the country.

He promised to initiate strategies to ensure free, fair and transparent process in the primaries and appointment of members for other assignments in the party.

He also said he would pursue initiatives aimed at uniting members at all levels and avoid bickering and intra-party conflicts that could undermine the overall objective of the party.

“The APC stands a chance to put Nigeria on the map of solid democracies with well developed political parties. I am determined to offer myself as an instrument of democratisation in our party and the nation,” he added.
