Former Uniport VC, Nimi Briggs, is dead
Former Vice Chancellor of the University of Port Harcourt and former Chairman, Committee of Vice Chancellors of Nigerian Universities, Prof. Nimi Briggs, is dead.
The news of his death was contained in a statement by one of his children, Ninah Nimi Briggs, on behalf of the family.
According to the statement, yesterday, the former VC, died in the early hours of Easter Monday at the age of 79.
The statement reads: “Early in the morning of Easter Monday 2023, heaven decided it was time. This colossal achiever, great husband, father, and grandfather, called Nimisoere Dimkpa Briggs, finished his race. We are grateful to God to have had the blessing of being his family while he strode this mortal world, and we (already) miss him deeply.”
Meanwhile, the Vice Chancellor of Uniport, Prof. Owunari Goergewill, has declared a five-day mourning within the university community.
The University, in a statement by the Public Relations Officer of the institution, Sam Kpenu, on his social media, said the mourning will start started yesterday would till Friday.
