Foundation brings succour to less privileged in Lagos community
A group, Precious Hope Inc. USA, has distributed foodstuffs and cash to the residents of Makoko in Yaba Local Council of Lagos State.
According to Dr Kayode Abegunde, the organisation’s founder and a resident of the United States, the initiative aims to cushion the effect of the economic downturn on vulnerable populations.
He said: “In the face of Nigerians’ hardship due to the high cost of basic and essential requirements such as food, we see the need to come up with an initiative to help the people cushion the effect.
“Our goal is to reach as many less privileged individuals as possible. Today, we’re supporting Makoko residents and making plans to extend this gesture to other parts of Lagos State and, eventually, the country.
“This is our way of reaching out to the people in the face of rising costs of basic needs like food. We saw the need to intervene and support those struggling.”
Elated by the gesture, the beneficiaries thanked Dr Abegunde and the group for their kindness.
“We’re thankful for this support during a difficult time. What we have received today will help us to cope with the economic situation. We pray for Dr Abegunde’s continued good health and blessings to sustain his philanthropic efforts,” one of the recipients, Soji Adeoye, said.
The Guardian learnt that the donation was part of the group’s ongoing efforts to impact the lives of less privileged Nigerians positively.
