Foundation empowers indigent students with N25m

The Matthew Okpebholo Foundation (MOF) in Edo State has doled out N25 million as grant to 500 final year students to assist them in their research work just as three inmates of the Ubiaja prison regained freedom as the foundation settled their fines payable to the government.
  
The gestures were part of activities marking the 22nd edition of the MOF scholarship scheme and 68th birthday of MOF founder, Rev. Matthew Okpebholo.

Besides the grant to the final year students drawn from tertiary institutions in the state, about 900 people also benefited from free medical outreach, which included 27 surgical operations.

While announcing the payment of their fines, Okpebhole also provided immediate employment in his asphalt plant at Uromi so they won’t go back to their life of crime.
  
In his remarks, Assistant Controller of Prisons (ACP) in charge of Ubiaja Prison, John Ariabure, commended the benevolence of the benefactor and urged other Nigerians to emulate him.
  
In a lecture to mark the celebration, the Vice Chancellor, Federal University of Petroleum Resources, Effurun (FUPRE), Delta State, Prof. Akll lbhadode, urged students from various institutions in the country to invest in modern inventions that would lead to the transformation of the society.

Dignitaries at the event included the Archbishop, Church of God Mission International, Rev. (Mrs.) Margaret Benson Idahosa, representative of the deputy governor, Philip Shaibu, traditional rulers, among others.
