A foundation, ‘Dem Go Hear Word’ said it plans to begin the second phase of their COVID-19 relief palliatives to Niger Delta indigenes in Warri, Abraka and environs from October 1 2020.

The founder Ekpe Peter Unuajohwofia said the foundation chose the date because it is the day Nigeria gained her independence and usually a national holiday. He said they would be able to reach out to more people to celebrate despite the economic downturn in the country.

When asked why he set up the foundation, he described his personal experience growing up in the oil-rich Niger- Delta region without access to basic amenities.

He lamented that oil companies are making money off the the region and not contributing to the development of the area.

“Trust is an increasingly scarce commodity between government, politicians and the masses already, has become even scarcer in these pandemic times. And with government and politicians not doing enough to help the masses, it is only proper for private individuals and businesses to pitch in to whenever and however they can support the people,” he said.
