Four die in Edo road crash

The Federal Roads Safety Commission (FRSC) has confirmed the death of four persons in an auto crash in Abudu, Orhionmwon Local Council of Edo State.Two persons were also said to have sustained varying degrees of injuries in the accident, which occurred at about 1.35 p.m. last Friday.

The Guardian gathered that the victims were on their way to Benin when their bus, a Toyota Hiace, collided with a Dangote truck on the Asaba-Benin expressway.

Spokesman for the state sector command of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Mr. George Otoaviokhai, who confirmed the incident yesterday, blamed the accident on speed violation.

He explained that while two male adults survived the crash, four passengers could not be accounted for. “The accident happened at 1.35 p.m. The (distress) call came at 1.40 p.m. and the response time was 1.45 p.m. The accident was fatal and the cause was speed violation. Two persons survived. Four known persons are still missing. Four persons (two males and two females) were killed. The bodies of the deceased were taken to Aigbogun hospital.”
