A member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Executive Council (NEC), Comrade Timi Frank has called on President Muhammadu Buhari, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and the Senate President Bukola Saraki to urgently rescue the party from the hands of its National Chairman, Chief John Oyegun from collapsing.

He also appealed to the party’s National leader Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara and other founding fathers and stakeholders of the party.

His appeal followed the sudden postponement of the National Executive Council (NEC) meeting of the party over which two chieftains of the party, Pally Iriase and Chief Olisa Emeka Akamukalam have kept mum.

Iriase who is the Deputy Chief Whip of the House of Representatives and a member of the APC caucus told The Guardian on telephone from his base in Edo State that it would be hasty to give his opinion on the decision.

“I received the invitation for the NEC meeting but I haven’t received the notice for the postponement.  I can’t talk about what I don’t know.  But I will find out why they did that,” he said.

Meanwhile, Akamukalam who is a member of the party’s board of trustees (BOT), there was nothing wrong or awkward with the sudden postponement of the meeting adding: “They called a meeting and they have the right to postpone or not postpone it.  But I was notified of the NEC Meeting.”

Frank however, appealed to the 24 governors on the platform of Progressives Governors Forum (PGF) to urgently take a decision that would ensure that the party elects capable hands that can effectively manage its affairs.

He was reacting to yet another postponement of the party’s national caucus and NEC meetings by its National Working Council (NWC) in a statement yesterday, saying: “It is high time the APC leaders took charge and rescue it from its current handlers driving it to destruction.”

The party’s NWC in a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi on Wednesday announced the postponement of National Caucus and NEC meeting due to what he described as the unexpected but Frank blamed it on “lack of trust of the party leaders for Chief John Odigie-Oyegun’s leadership style.”

“APC as it is now can’t hold any national meeting under the current chairman. So, the call to save this party becomes apt now as I have been shouting all this while. It is high time Oyegun save his face from total embarrassment and quietly resign from office.

“As it is today, the party has become a caricature under Chief Oyegun, hence the need to save it from collapse. This is a party that is not bringing anything on the table to support President Buhari administration contrary to expectations.
