#FreeNnamdiKanu Protest shuts down Ebonyi

Ebonyi State was shut down on Monday as residents remained inside their houses in solidarity with the protests for the release of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra(IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu.

The Guardian gathered that, although there was no protest march throughout the state, the situation crippled business activities, as banks, schools, offices, businesses, including eateries, shopping malls, and markets, were all shut down.

The Guardian further gathered that there were few vehicles on the road as parks were also shut down, but a few commercial motorcyclists and tricyclists were operating around the city centre.
Although armed security personnel were stationed in some strategic locations throughout the state to ensure a peaceful atmosphere, they quickly dispersed when it became clear that the people were behaving normally.

When our correspondent visited the metropolis, the roads were empty with almost all the shops closed, and few people were seen trekking to their destinations.
Banks, schools, markets, government offices, motor parks, and other private institutions were closed.

At Bussy Water Works Road, section of Ogoja Road and Afikpo Road, Gunning Street and Afikpo Street, there was no traffic as the roads were deserted by road users. Also, the Ezzama/Oshiri/Onicha/Okposi/Uburu road was very lonely, as no vehicular movements were noticed.

Speaking to journalists in Abakaliki, the Commander of the State Neighbourhood Watch, Mr. Victor Chibuoyi, said that he was happy with the conduct of the people, noting that people have the right to protest but should not be used to cause a crisis.

He noted that despite the peaceful atmosphere in the state, he deployed his men throughout the state to make sure nothing went wrong during the protest.
