French Institute hosts open day in Abuja, unveils digital room

The French Institute in Abuja recently held an inspiring open day event, welcoming the local community to discover its diverse offerings and engage with French culture.

The highlight of the day was the official launch of the institute’s new digital room, a state-of-the-art facility aimed at enhancing learning and providing access to a wide array of digital resources.

Attendees enjoyed guided tours of the facility, participated in interactive demonstrations, and explored the various programs offered by the institute. The digital room is designed to deepen the appreciation of the French language and culture through innovative technology, making it an exciting addition to the institute’s educational initiatives.

The Deputy Director of IFN, Lucille Haddad, shared that the digital room will feature monthly tech-oriented programs, including VR experiences, video game masterclasses, and digital workshops.

Haddad emphasized the room’s role in serving Nigeria’s rapidly growing tech and creative communities.

She noted that anyone can join the IFN community, either as a student or as an active participant in its enriching cultural programs.

She remarked, “This platform aims to unite the entire IFN community, including students, partners like Ecoceder Solar and Ekòndò, and others engaged in environmental sustainability, culture, technology, and education. The digital room facilitates connections among cultures, industries, and individuals. We are creating a resource hub for both creatives and tech enthusiasts to explore, learn, and network. Our programming will be accessible through various channels, including social media, newsletters, and WhatsApp groups.”

The Head of the IFN Language Centre, Chika Oko, stressed the growing significance of the French language for Nigerians, particularly given Nigeria’s proximity to Francophone countries.

He explained that the institute offers comprehensive language programs year-round, catering to all proficiency levels, complemented by cultural activities, exhibitions, and performances.

“With Nigeria surrounded by Francophone nations, learning French is crucial for diplomacy, business, and education. Mastering the language provides a strategic advantage, as language is a gateway to culture. Our curriculum not only teaches French but also immerses students in the rich cultural context associated with the language,” he added.
