FRSC, NCS to integrate national vehicle information database

Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) have commenced integration of vehicle databases.
The collaboration was sealed during an official visit by NCS Acting Comptroller General, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, to FRSC Corps Marshal, Dauda Ali Biu, yesterday.
Adeniyi disclosed NSC’s renewed commitment towards working with FRSC in human resource development, information and communication technology, and sports.
A joint statement was issued, signed by Assistant Corps Marshal, Corps Public Education Officer, Bisi Kazeem and Chief Superintendent of Customs, National Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Maiwada.
The statement noted that consolidation of existing information in the National Vehicle Identification Scheme database domiciled with FRSC and vehicle database of the NCS will curb vehicle smuggling, improve revenue generation, and enhance national security.
Biu applauded the initiative, saying the handshake and data sharing initiative would strengthen the bond between the agencies and positively impact the fight against smuggling of vehicles.
He said the collaboration will entrench ease of doing business and make tracking of vehicles without customs duty certificate easy for the Corps at point of registration.
Biu urged Adeniyi to prioritise enforcement of restriction on importation of vehicles which ages, at point of importation, are above specified legal limits.
He also called for enforcement of a ban on importation of substandard tyres.
