FRSC urges traders to desist from road side trading

Boboye-OyeyemiThe Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Edo has urged traders in the state to desist from displaying their wares along major streets and roads, saying it could cause accidents.

The State Sector Commander of FRSC, Mr Oluwasusi Familoni, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Benin on Tuesday.

Familoni said that the FRSC recently organised a sensitisation programme for the traders’ union on the dangers associated with such practices.

This was part of the FRSC’s efforts to curb road accidents in the state, he said.

He said that displaying of wares along major streets or roads by traders had become a menace and a major cause of traffic gridlock in the state.

The sector commander said that if such a trend was not abated, it could lead to crashes on the roads.

He called on traders to desist from such act.

‘‘The FRSC is working on modalities to collaborate with traders’ union to curb the excesses of street trading.

‘’This collaboration is informed by directives from the FRSC national headquarters,” he said.

He, therefore, called on the State Government to design professional training programmes for traffic officials and actualise its plan to reintroduce the state traffic management agency.
