The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has warned motorists and other road users against reckless driving, especially during this ‘ember’ months, reminding that only the living celebrate.

Also, Corps Marshal of FRSC, Dauda Ali Biu, has reiterated the agency’s dedication to serving humanity.

Biu and the Oyo Sector Commander, Joshua Adekanye, stated these, while decorating 200 Special Marshals and 48 Honorary Special Marshals at Oyo State Command, Ibadan, the state capital.

“My warning to motorists is for them to desist, even if we are arresting them, we are doing so, so that they will not harm themselves.

“We are using this opportunity to say that we love them, and if they abide by traffic rules, there won’t be any accident, especially at this time,” Adekanye said.

Biu, represented by Pauline Olaye, Assistant Corp Marshal of the agency, emphasised that road safety is a collective responsibility and citizens must participate by sensitising the public and adhering to road safety guidelines.

He commended the integrity of the new special marshals, describing them as individuals who complemented the work of road safety.
According to him, their contributions are essential in achieving the agency’s strategic goal of reducing road traffic crises by five per cent.

He noted that adherence to road safety guidelines would prevent arrests.

The induction of the new special marshals is expected to enhance FRSC’s operations in the state and region.

The corps marshal urged inductees to carry out their duties with fairness, transparency, and a sense of responsibility.

The event also featured a paper presentation titled: “Volunteerism in road safety management: limits and possibilities.”

The National Coordinator, Special Marshals, Dr John Ugbebor, in his presentation, encouraged all Special Marshals, including the new inductees, to remain dedicated to their roles in supporting road safety programmes.
