Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has charged the newly appointed commissioners to give their best in serving the people.
Fubara gave the charge yesterday at the Government House, Port Harcourt, during the swearing-in ceremony of the first batch of five commissioners who had earlier scaled the screening exercise conducted by the Rivers State House of Assembly on Monday.
The governor noted that, having passed through what he described as one of the most rigorous screening exercises, the commissioners had already demonstrated their readiness and competence to serve as members of the State Executive Council.
According to him, the lawmakers had clearly outlined their duties and responsibilities during the screening process, stressing that he expects nothing short of excellent performance from them.
“I believe that going through one of the most rigorous screening exercises is enough to say that those of you who succeeded are fit and ready to deliver to our dear state,” Fubara said.
“So there is no further charge. The screening itself was the charge. I wish you the best, as I do not expect anything less than your best in service.”
The commissioners sworn in at the ceremony are Tonye Bellgam, Prof. Temple Nwofor, Dr Peters Nwagor, Lekue Kenneth, and Sir Amairigha Edward Hart.
The Oath of Allegiance and Oath of Office were administered to the commissioners by the Chief Registrar of the High Court of Rivers State, David D. Ihua-Maduenyi.
Fubara, however, did not comment on the remaining four nominees who were rejected by the Assembly due to discrepancies relating to tax and other matters. The initial list submitted to the Martins Amaewhule-led House of Assembly included nine nominees, of which five were approved.
