Future of education lies in private institutions, says Okojie
Former Executive Secretary, National Universities Commission (NUC), Professor Julius Okojie, has said that the future of education in Nigeria lies with private universities.
Okojie, who delivered the maiden convocation lecture at the Edwin Clark University (ECU), Kiagbodo, Burutu Council of Delta State, yesterday, said the stability of private universities in Nigeria encouraged parents and guardians to enroll their wards in Nigerian schools, instead of sending them abroad to study.
In the lecture entitled ‘Private Universities and Future of University Education In Nigeria’, the professor noted one major advantage of private universities as their non-involvement in industrial actions, which engenders stability.
He explained that government-owned institutions were faced with incessant strikes, which made some of them lose cumulative period of more than eight semesters.
