A former Secretary to Kano State Government (SSG), Alhaji Usman Alhaji, has been removed as Wazirin Gaya, a traditional title of the Gaya Emirate.
Alhaji served as SSG between 2016 and 2023 during the administration of the immediate past governor of the state and National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.
In a letter conveyed to the former titleholder, it was stated that certain unavoidable circumstances necessitated the withdrawal. The decision takes immediate effect.
“This action underscores the Emirate’s commitment to preserving the sanctity, dignity, and integrity of traditional titles in line with established customs and values,” the letter said.
The letter, signed by Secretary to the Gaya Emirate Council, Alhaji Bello Halilu, noted that the council deeply appreciates the contributions and commitment of Alhaji during his tenure as Wazirin Gaya.
The letter added that the council expressed gratitude for his support of the traditional institution and his efforts in promoting the cultural heritage of the emirate.
The letter informed the general public to take note of the development.
Alhaji, who is also the leader of the APC Patriotic Volunteers, a pressure group within the APC, led the government delegation that announced the deposition of the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, on March 9, 2020.
Recently, the ex-SSG challenged the state government to account for the management of public resources entrusted to it during the last two years of its administration in Kano.
His group alleged gross acts of incompetence, disregard for the rule of law and misappropriation of funds in Kano, demanding a clear explanation on the management of public resources.
Alhaji specifically asked Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to make public the total revenue received from the Federation Account and Internally Generated Revenue, as well as grants, since the assumption of office.
The state government had since dismissed the allegations raised by the APC Patriotic Volunteers as politically motivated, false, and lacking all sincerity.
