Gender Inclusion: ACCI defines women-owned businesses

The Abuja Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI) has officially adopted a clear definition of Women-Owned Businesses (WOB) to promote gender inclusion and ensure targeted support for women entrepreneurs.
According to ACCI, WOBs are businesses with “women as sole proprietors, companies, or partnerships that are more than 51% owned by women.”
The development was discussed during the recently concluded 2nd Public-Private Dialogue (PPD) workshop on Public-Private Partnership (PPP) and Public Procurement, organized by ACCI with support from the Investment Climate Reform Facility (ICRF).

Speaking at the workshop, which brought together stakeholders from both public and private institutions, Barr. Roseline Obiageli Nwosu, Vice President of ACCI Women Development and Gender Matters, stressed that defining WOBs was crucial in bridging the economic gap for female entrepreneurs.
Nwosu said the initiative aligns with ACCI’s commitment to fostering an inclusive business environment where women can thrive as business leaders, innovators, and contributors to national economic growth.
“The definition sets a standard for recognizing and empowering women-led enterprises to ensure they receive adequate representation in policy discussions, business support programmes, and funding opportunities,” a statement from the chamber said on Thursday.
