The Ghana Police Service has announced the arrest of 89 suspects in connection with various offences during the elections that took place on Saturday.

The Director, Public Affairs, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Grace Ansah-Akrofi, in a statement, said 40 of them are directly connected to the acts of vandalism, looting and the destruction of properties.

She said all the suspects will be charged to court to face justice.

Ansah-Akrofi further stated that security agencies have moved into the post-election security phase and additional measures have been put in place to maintain peace, security law and order.

She listed security measures put in place to include joint patrols, intelligence-led operations and investigations.

Lamenting the limited cases of looting, vandalism and destruction of properties in some locations across the country, Ansah-Akrofi cautioned the public to desist from such acts of violence, warning that perpetrators will be arrested and prosecuted.
