Foremost accountant, Richard Erhumuse Yisau Giwa-Osagie, turns 70 today. Born into the famous Oloke family of Benin City, he is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), Institute of Management Consultants and Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria and holds MBA degree (Finance & Accounting) from the University of Ibadan.
He started his accountancy career in Deloitte, an international accounting firm, passed all his professional accountancy examinations at first attempt and won the Bayliss Smith Prize, being the best student in advanced accounting in the final exams in November 1976.
He is Senior Partner/Chief Executive Officer of Giwa-Osagie, DFK & Co. (Chartered Accountants) a member firm of DFK International. In the course of his career, he has rendered professional services to all sectors of the Nigerian economy.
His leadership qualities were identified as a student when he was appointed the Senior Prefect in his final year at Ibadan Grammar School, Ibadan. He was a member of Justice Raje’s Commission of Enquiry, the pioneer president of the University of Ibadan ‘MBA’ Alumni Association, Lagos Zone and the pioneer Vice Chairman of Deloitte Alumni Association. He was the chairman of Ikoyi Club 1938 from 2011 – 2013.
Giwa-Osagie is also a Rotarian per excellence, a Past Assistant Rotary International Fiscal Agent in Nigeria (2002 – 2008), Past District Governor, Rotary International District 9110, (2008 – 2009) and Past Assistant Rotary Coordinator Zone 20A (Africa – English-speaking countries) from 2010 – 2012. He was granted the honorary citizenship of the City of Sarasota, Florida, USA by the Mayor of Sarasota, Florida in January 2008 due to his Rotary commitments of selfless services to humanity.
He is widely travelled and happily married with children and grandchildren.
