GOC prescribes community engagement to curb insecurity

The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 3 Division, Nigerian Army, and Commander, Operation Safe Haven (OPSH), Maj-Gen. Ibrahim Ali, has charged students of Armed Forces Command Staff College (AFCSC) Junior Course 94, Jaji, Kaduna State, to effectively deploy community engagement to arrest security challenges across the country.

Ali gave the charge, yesterday, while addressing students of the college at the headquarters of 3 Division, who were on operational tour to Jos.

According to a statement signed by the Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 3 Division, Lt-Col. Ishaku Takwa, the GOC reiterated that effective engagement with community leaders and relevant agents would reduce the security issues confronting the country.

He revealed that the successes recorded within 3 Division and OPSH were a result of continuous engagement with the communities.

The non-kinetic measures such as sporting and cultural competitions, meeting with stakeholders, as well as joint community security intervention committee and vigilantes formed were yielding positive results, he added.

Earlier in his remarks, Director, Land Warfare (DLW), AFCSC, Jaji, Brig-Gen. Ishaya Maina, who led the officers and students, said the students of Junior Course 94 were on an operational visit to garner knowledge and experience about the operational activities of 3 Division and OPSH under the leadership of Ali, which he said has led to tremendous peace and security of lives and property.
