Gombe Speaker denies removing borehole from his constituency
Garba who refuted the report that was earlier published in some national dailies, not The Guardian, that he had removed the borehole he constructed for the people of Gari Bappi after his defeat by the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate in the last election, said the report was false.
The Speaker also said his priority was to serve his people. “Allegation as reported by the paper was untrue as no borehole has been uprooted in my constituency.
I have some ongoing projects worth N40 million at various wards within my constituency as my personal donation to my people,” he added.
Meanwhile, the journalist who reported the story, had submitted a complaint before the Gombe State Police Command, saying the Speaker had issued him a threat through a GSM call.
According to him, the Speaker had threatened to deal with him in any form, and that he also threatened to drag him to court. But the Speaker also denied issuing any threat, even as he admitted that he only threatened to take the matter to court.
Also, the Chairman, Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Gombe State Council, Alhassan Yahaya said he had inaugurated a committee to look into the matter after which necessary action would be taken.
He urged all journalists in the state to always cross-check their facts before reporting. Even as he said, the NUJ has enjoyed a good working relationship with the Speaker and the entire legislative body in the state. Yahaya said that the Nigeria Union of Journalists would continue to work toward sustaining the relationship with the Assembly.
