Gov Ododo links Kogi security to national stability

Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo

Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo of Kogi State has said the security of the state is critical to Nigeria’s overall stability, citing its strategic position as a gateway between the North and South.

Ododo made the remark in Abuja at the Kogi State Security Summit and Fundraising, where he reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to protecting lives and property.

“Kogi State holds a critical place in Nigeria’s security architecture. Securing our state is, in many ways, securing the nation,” he said.

He warned that without peace, economic growth and development would remain elusive, describing the summit as a call for collective action among stakeholders.

The governor noted that rising threats such as kidnapping, banditry, terrorism, and cybercrime require more advanced, intelligence-driven responses.

He said his administration has strengthened security through operational vehicles, surveillance systems, drones, and improved support for security agencies, while also restructuring the Kogi State Security Trust Fund to attract private sector contributions.

Ododo urged businesses and individuals to support security efforts, vowing that his government would not tolerate criminality.

“We will not negotiate with criminals. Those who choose the path of crime must face the full weight of the law,” he said.

In his remarks, Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum called for sustained funding and the deployment of modern technology to tackle insecurity across the country.

He said Borno had reduced insecurity by over 90 percent through consistent efforts and federal support but noted that the fight remains resource-intensive.

“The kinetic measures alone will not end the insurgency. We need modern equipment, including artificial intelligence, robotics, and drones,” Zulum said.

He also highlighted poverty, illiteracy, and infrastructure deficits as key drivers of insecurity, urging a comprehensive approach that addresses root causes.

Zulum called for continued support from government, corporate organisations, and individuals, and pledged technical assistance to Kogi State.

The summit attracted government officials, security chiefs, and stakeholders, who emphasised the need for collaboration, innovation, and sustained investment in national security.
