The Ogun State Police Command will train about 520 security, electoral, media and political stakeholders ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The two-day security workshop will take place from September 22 to 23, 2026, according to a statement signed by the workshop’s Executive Consultant, Dr Bolu John Folayan on Tuesday.

Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, is expected to declare the workshop open and deliver the keynote address.

Professor of Mass Communication and law practitioner, Fassy Adetokunboh Yusuf, will present the lead paper.

Participants will include Divisional Police Officers, area commanders, representatives of the Police Community Relations Committee, the Independent National Electoral Commission and security agencies.

Members of the Amotekun Corps, So-Safe Corps, Vigilante Corps, Department of State Services, Nigeria Customs Service and major political parties are also expected to attend.

Journalists from the Ogun State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists and selected political editors will also participate.

Folayan said the workshop would promote cooperation among security agencies and improve community engagement before, during and after elections.

He added that it would address professional conduct, accountability, media relations and the responsibilities assigned to stakeholders under the Constitution, Electoral Act and Police Act.

“With improved knowledge of stakeholders in the law, inter-agency cooperation, media and community relations, successful elections are much more achievable,” Folayan said.

He explained that poor knowledge of the duties assigned to different institutions could cause conflict, disrupt public order and weaken the credibility of elections.

Participants are expected to sign a “Responsive and Responsible Professionalism Charter” at the end of the training.

Themed “Elections, Community Mobilisation, the Law and the Media,” the workshop will also cover election-related social media management and fundraising.

Folayan said credible elections required security agencies to protect constitutional rights while the media exercised those rights responsibly.

“No security operation should infringe on these without due process. That’s the way to have credible elections, and that’s the goal of this training,” he added.
