Kano State Government says it has executed development projects worth over N928 billion in three years.

Accordingly, the government under the leadership of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has undertaken 1,508 projects across the state’s 44 local government areas, out of which 799 have been completed, while 709 are still at various stages of completion.

The Commissioner for Public Procurement, Projects Monitoring and Evaluation, Comrade Nura Ma’aji Sumaila, disclosed this at a press briefing on the infrastructure projects monitored so far.

The commissioner also revealed that the government had recommended the revocation of several contracts that failed to meet contractual obligations, stressing that the move underscored the administration’s commitment to quality project delivery and prudent management of public funds.

He added that the government had so far paid contractors over N600 billion, while outstanding payments were being processed based on contractors’ requests and project milestones.

According to him, the projects are in addition to 619 constituency projects being executed across the 44 local government areas through members of the Kano State House of Assembly.

Sumaila said the projects span critical sectors, including roads, urban renewal, security, healthcare, education, transportation, water supply and other social infrastructure aimed at improving the living conditions of residents.

He said urban renewal projects alone accounted for contracts worth about N169 billion, covering road rehabilitation, drainage construction and metropolitan infrastructure.

He added that the administration also awarded contracts worth over N118 billion for the construction of 5-kilometre roads in 38 local government areas to improve connectivity across the state.

On security, the commissioner said the government invested over N6.8 billion in the construction of Neighbourhood Watch security divisions in 36 local government areas to strengthen community policing and improve public safety.

He said rural infrastructure projects across all 44 local government areas, covering roads, education, healthcare and other social interventions, accounted for contracts worth over N397 billion, while other categories of projects totalled about N255 billion.

Sumaila said Governor Yusuf’s administration remained committed to equitable distribution of projects between urban and rural communities, with emphasis on transparency, value for money and compliance with procurement regulations.

He noted that the Ministry of Public Procurement, Projects Monitoring and Evaluation would continue to monitor projects to ensure compliance with approved specifications and technical standards.

“The ministry remains committed to ensuring value for money, quality project delivery and effective monitoring of all developmental projects across Kano State,” he said.

He added that the government’s infrastructure drive was designed to strengthen the state’s economy, improve mobility, enhance security and expand access to essential public services across Kano.
