Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has directed the payment of ₦10,000 each to students of Kwara origin in public-owned tertiary institutions.

The Governor has also approved a stipend of ₦10,000 each for some categories of security agents, which would be disbursed through the Kwara State Social Investment Programme (KWASSIP) Office.

The support for students is a departure from the previous bursary award, which was limited to final year students of tertiary institutions. Under the new initiative, all students in public-owned tertiary institutions in Kwara State will receive the one-time payment of ₦10,000. The Governor had previously increased the bursary award for final year students from ₦5,000 to ₦10,000.

To ensure the smooth coordination of the support, the Governor has established a committee to oversee the disbursement of funds.

According to a statement signed by Rafiu Ajakaye , the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, the committee will be chaired by Prof. Shehu Raheem Adaramaja, who is also the chairman of the Kwara State Universal Basic Education Board (KWSUBEB).

The committee will comprise officials from the Ministry of Tertiary Institution, the bursary department, the Ministry of Finance, and representatives from the National Association of Kwara State Students (NAKSS) and the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) in Kwara State.

To apply for the state bursary support, eligible students will need to fill in the required information and submit the necessary documents through a web link that the committee will publish. Specific dates for the application process will also be announced.

The Governor’s initiative aims to provide financial support to students and security agents who serve as the first line of defence in the state. It is part of the government’s efforts to invest in education and enhance the welfare of its citizens in Kwara State.
